Storyline:
In 1968, the Ford auto factory in Dagenham was one of the largest single private employers in the United Kingdom. In addition to the thousands of male employees, there are also 187 underpaid women machinists who primarily assemble the car seat upholstery in poor working conditions. Dissatisfied, the women, represented by the shop steward and Rita O'Grady, work with union rep Albert Passingham for a better deal. However, Rita learns that there is a larger issue in this dispute considering that women are paid an appalling fraction of the men's wages for the same work across the board on the sole basis of their sex. Refusing to tolerate this inequality any longer, O'Grady leads a strike by her fellow machinists for equal pay for equal work. What follows would test the patience of all involved in a grinding labour and political struggle that ultimately would advance the cause of women's rights around the world.

Excellent acting and wonderful true story. Loved the pictures of the real people at the end.

Magnificent film that opened my eyes to the passage of the ERA in England and in other nations. It also made me re/evaluate my opinion of Ford Motor Company. A must see. It is also an enpowering portrayal of how one individual/ a woman can make a change in a nation with tenacity and sacrifice.

The Equal pay act in BRITAIN was passed over 40 years ago. The law came about over a Ford Dagenham car plant in 1968. The woman at this plant went on strike tired of being skilled workers and receiving less pay then the men. Sally Hawkins played ?Mrs. Rita O'Grady? who lead the woman to the creation of the Equal Pay Act which is still in law today in Great Britain. A law which changed equality for woman around the world for decades to come. Great Film. Tends to be just a little dry in the drama where a pinch of Hollywood could fix, but a great movie still. Solid 4 stars out of 5
